This jardiniѐre has been in my family for many years. I love the pale green background with the raised blue flowers. The red cyclamen have been in here for a long time too, sometimes dying off in the heat, but always coming back to look magnificent again.

These lemons are from a tree very close to my studio. It is a prolific producer. I love the colour and strength of the leaves and the branches. The copper bowl is borrowed. I like the way that there are reflections in the bowl. The tablecloth reminds me of a market in Paris where we saw similar cloths.

This is an assembly of items I am fond of, some borrowed (the bird is a replica of an ancient Chinese artefact), the tray is a trophy won by my husband for football, and I love the fabric toile de jouy. The lamp is still used from time to time

This beautiful ‘Victorian Lady’ of San Francisco, is a weatherboard building which survived the earthquake of 1906 and subsequent fires. It now is a beautiful hotel which has been lovingly restored and decorated along with lovely antiques. We stayed here in 2010 and enjoyed not only the ambience, but the fabulous breakfasts which you eat sitting in any spot you can find, not formally at dining tables, whilst listening to beautiful music. After evening out, come back and enjoy perhaps a sherry, and a spa in the garden, or maybe the view from the roof. Just fantastic. Find them at http://www.innsf.com

These are the marble statues which includes flowing water, which can be seen at the Parliament, Vienna. I sat just above them and did this pen and wash. I loved the blue/grey colour which the marble throws. I was also very conscious that I was in a spot which Hitler would possibly have stood on whilst looking over his latest spoil of war.

I did this pen and wash whilst sitting on the steps of the church of San Giorgio Maggiore on the island of the same name in Venice. It is the same place that Canaletto did paintings from, although he probably painted from the bell tower. I was looking for this spot when we were on a vaporetto and leapt off at this stop! We didn’t know how beautiful this church was inside, but Kevin McLeod did and it is featured in his journey to Europe.
