Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 6,800 times in 2014. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.

This was a commission which I painted largely from life. The stunning flowers however don’t last long. Pen and watercolour and acrylic on linen – an unusual rendering but suitable for this subject I thought.

Lakes Entrance, Victoria.Pen and ink sketch of the fishing boats moored at Lakes Entrance, Victoria, Australia. I sat on one of the quays to do this sketch.

Red pelargoniumsRed pelargonium 2012Ⓒ. Framed oil painting on canvas. 56x44cm framed.

Lovely bright red teapot with cane handle and floral decoration.

This jardiniѐre has been in my family for many years. I love the pale green background with the raised blue flowers. The red cyclamen have been in here for a long time too, sometimes dying off in the heat, but always coming back to look magnificent again.

This gum is one of many in the park outside our window and which bloom with this soft white blossom. The birds love them, especially the wattlebirds and the parrots.

This coffee pot was my maternal grandmother’s and I have always loved its shape. To paint it with the other silver items presented a challenge, but I really like the result, also for the little cane-handled silver engraved jug. The toile fabric, like in the other painting I did, the ginger jar, is a favourite.

These lemons are from a tree very close to my studio. It is a prolific producer. I love the colour and strength of the leaves and the branches. The copper bowl is borrowed. I like the way that there are reflections in the bowl. The tablecloth reminds me of a market in Paris where we saw similar cloths.

June 2013: This work won an award on the Red Bubble website in the SoJie 22 competition –  the Ming Myaskovsky Fine Art Award for ‘Outstanding Impressionism, Still Life’.

SoJie 22, June 2013

Redbubble is the website that I use to showcase all of my artworks, but particularly to show artwork which can be reproduced onto cards, postcards, calendars, t-shirts, baby clothing, stickers etc. This is my Redbubble address: http://www.redbubble.com/people/emgolding

The website is used by 1000s of people internationally for the same reason as me. Every day Redbubble produces a home-page with artist’s work on it. For the second time I have been featured here. I am quite delighted to be selected – this time for ‘Pomegranate’.

Here is the citation:  ‘Your work, Pomegranate is on the Redbubble homepage today. One of our homepage curators picked your image because they thought it was brilliant. Every day we add a handpicked selection of works to the homepage, and our new design allows visitors to look back through previous days’ selections, which means your work will be getting attention well past today…Redbubble thinks you’re pretty awesome – and you have a primo spot on our homepage to prove it!’ (Link from RedBubble on Nov 17 2012).

This is an assembly of items I am fond of, some borrowed (the bird is a replica of an ancient Chinese artefact), the tray is a trophy won by my husband for football, and I love the fabric toile de jouy. The lamp is still used from time to time

This beautiful ‘Victorian Lady’ of San Francisco, is a weatherboard building which survived the earthquake of 1906 and subsequent fires. It now is a beautiful hotel which has been lovingly restored and decorated along with lovely antiques. We stayed here in 2010 and enjoyed not only the ambience, but the fabulous breakfasts which you eat sitting in any spot you can find, not formally at dining tables, whilst listening to beautiful music. After evening out, come back and enjoy perhaps a sherry, and a spa in the garden, or maybe the view from the roof. Just fantastic. Find them at http://www.innsf.com

These are the marble statues which includes flowing water, which can be seen at the Parliament, Vienna. I sat just above them and did this pen and wash. I loved the blue/grey colour which the marble throws. I was also very conscious that I was in a spot which Hitler would possibly have stood on whilst looking over his latest spoil of war.

I did this pen and wash whilst sitting on the steps of the church of San Giorgio Maggiore on the island of the same name in Venice. It is the same place that Canaletto did paintings from, although he probably painted from the bell tower. I was looking for this spot when we were on a vaporetto and leapt off at this stop! We didn’t know how beautiful this church was inside, but Kevin McLeod did and it is featured in his journey to Europe.

This pen and wash I did whilst sitting on a bridge over a canal in Venice.
